Kalbarri to Denham/Monkey Mia

Leaving early today, we arrived in Denham for lunch.
We had a quick loo stop at the Overlander Road House which I would recommend. A busy little kitchen that was clean, had heaps of info on the area and birds to keep Bethany entertained.
Saw some Emus along side of the road which was awesome.
We stopped at Shell Beach which is a must.

Grab your togs for a quick dip and take in the amazing white beach made up of small shells.

We had a little bit until we could check in so we went to Monkey Mia. WASTE OF TIME!
First, we past some amazing spots such as Whalebone and Little Lagoon which were all free I might add. Monkey Mia is $8 per adult and I only had a $20. So paid $20 to get there and while I don't have a problem supporting parks and wildlife with conservation, the place was littered with bottles and ciggie butts. The beach was only okay too. In my opinion, keep driving and call into a lagoon off the road. We went to Little Lagoon and it was gorgeous!

Cervantes to Kalbarri

We left Cervantes about 8.45am ish and we stopped at Geraldton for lunch at 12.

We arrived at Kalbarri at 2pm. Tonight we are staying at the Palms Resort. Motel style room for a bargain price, dated but clean. There are two pools and a heated spa which is handy since the water is FREEZING! Plus this sign:

Dinner at sunset was at a great place that I highly recommend, The GrassTree cafe/restaurant. Looking for a romantic dinner? Or somewhere to take the kids? PERFECT!
They have this amazing kids room which is two rooms with a tv/movies, bean bags, tools, play station, many books - its awesome.

Dread update

Had my dreads looked at a few days ago. I got a free 1hr maintenance and I was lucky enough to have Nazy, the owner over from Melbourne, doing it. She was a wicked individual who reminded me of my sister, not just because they are both lesbians, but their kick butt attitudes.
They feel so nice now! Might tighter and I hope they felt up nicely. Brought some product for them and am thinking of how I can get back down for some more work since no one in Darwin maintains dreads. Maybe I could learn...

Road Trip! Perth to the Pinnacles

We left Donna and Dennis this morning to start our trip back home.

We drove up the Indian Coastal Highway from Perth and made a stop at the Pinnacles.
It's only a few hours up the track and a lovely spot.

We are staying at a self contained house, Cervantes Holiday Homes, not bad for the price.

Dread day no. 3

Head is slightly itchy, but nothing too bad.

My dread routine consists of nothing more than spraying the LokkUp spray twice a day. I wear my awesome shower cap in the shower and mostly wear a headband in the day to keep my hair off my face.

While I can, I'm not tying my hair back yet. I have 1hr free maintenance next week, so I'm going to wait until then.
REALLY waiting until I can wash my hair :D
I only washed my hair weekly normally, and it's only been 4 days - but I want to see how they look after the wash!

Today, we visited the fabulous J. We met in Darwin and then her hubby got posted back to Perth. She now lives, no joke, like 300m from where I lived when I was in Perth!
Unfortunately her boys were in kindy today.

Weirdsista dread journey - Day 1

Met Medusa at 10am for the start of my dreading. No wax, no chemicals, no back combing = awesomeness.

So it started with sectioning, easy bit in my opinion. Then lunch, upon our return DREADING!

Butt bruises

We hired bikes this morning to head off on a bike adventure.

We made our way around to Ricey Beach which was awesome. We were the only ones there.

There was so many hills! Our little butts are in so much pain.

Afterwards, we pedaled back to the settlement for lunch and a rest. Then went for a swim at Thompson Bay South.
After our sting ray encounter yesterday, today's treat was a pelican! Swam right up to us while we were on the beach.

We leave bright early tomorrow morning to head back to the mainland.
Tomorrow is going to be a huge day. A NEW CAR plus getting my DREADS done. Nervous and excited all in one.
Hopefully I have a good sleep tonight.

Rotto - Day 1

After Dave and Donna though it was a wise idea to stay up to 4am drinking, we were off to Rotto.

We are staying in South Thompson Bay, in this awesome 4 bed unit. I've lived in WA for many years and have never stayed overnight - so this is a treat.
We went for a swim later in the arvo, it took Beth a bit to get used to it with waves and all that. Then all of a sudden a STRING RAY swam past. I quietly shat myself to be honest.
After dinner we went for a walk for ice cream, on the way back we saw some quokkas.

Going on a plane

Face of Birth was last night. Totally amazing, even though I was stressed to the max, still glad I did it. We had about 50 people all up and I was really happy with that. Even a consultant from RDH came!

So today, we left Darwin for our WA adventure. Poor Nth WA has been hit with a Cat4 TC Lua around Eighty Mile Beach, which is between Port Hedland and Broome.

Beth did okay on the plane, not fabulously like a breastfed baby or a terrible monster of a child, just tolerable which is fine I guess...

Pizzas is delivered

I'm watching my fellow students post about their day at CTB (Clinical Training Block), they need to pass this before going on their placements this semester. I'm very jealous! I would have loved to be doing placements this year and joining in the fun, but that's not my path right now. I need my focus else where.
My heart does drop though when they are posting, "Oooh! Delivering my first baby", Our First Deliveries 2012 etc
I've learnt from my time in the birth community that WOMEN BIRTH BABIES! Pizza is delivered, and midwives/OBs/Doula etc do not do the birthing...
I decided to post a link about the power of language in birth, hopefully I don't piss anyone off or seem to snobby.

This week

Just need to get through this week...
I can see the light! So close to holidays!
I started to pack on the weekend and it was so weird packing for a summer climate as for the past two years we have been going "down south". I have so much room! I have Beth's stuff in my suitcase and there is still so much room. No bulky jackets, jeans or jumpers make a HUGE difference.

Kinda getting really excited about my dreads too. This is my last week where I will have to brush my hair, but I get that I will have to look after it a bit more.
So I washed my hair as per normal on the weekend with non-sillicon shampoo and conditioner. Depending on how it goes towards the end of the week (I normally only wash my hair once a week), I might wash it Thursday or I might just wait until Sunday and wash it with the dread lokk soap I was given by weirdsistas, which I have to use about 2 days prior to my dreading.

This week is also the Darwin screening of Face of Birth. I'm so nervous as this has been resting on my shoulders and I'll be glad when it is over and done with tbh, it has caused me great stress.

Happy Birthday!

Today we celebrate the gorgeous birthday of Bethany! Cannot believe 2 years ago that she chose us to be her parents.

Also on a Bethany update, she decided to wean this week. Her last feed was Tuesday 28th 5.30pm and she hasn't asked since, well she did today but that ship has sailed!
I always wanted her off the breast before my next pregnancy - could this be a sign?
